Air handlers circulate and condition air around your home, working in partnership with your HVAC system to cool or heat up air. Here are some of the main components inside of an air handler’s box:
- Blower fan: The fan moves the air around and into the ductwork system.
- Heating and/or cooling element: To cool the air, the air handler uses a coil filled with refrigerant. During the heating process, the coil is heated with electricity or hot water.
- Filters: Filters prevent dust, pollen and other particles from entering the air duct and improve air quality.
- Humidifier: Air can get dry very quickly from being pushed around and heated or cooled. The humidifier adds moisture and is especially useful in the winter months.
- Mixing box: A mixing box is where the fresh air from outside is recirculated with the indoor air.

When Do You Need to Rent an Air Handler?
Maybe you have planned maintenance coming up or have experienced an emergency breakdown — these are situations when you’d need an air handler rental. You can rent air handling units straight from us for whatever reason. Our rental plans are flexible for both temporary situations and longer durations, such as using the unit on a construction site for a few months.
Air Handler Applications
You can use an air handler for just about any building or environment, but ones that we see often are:
- Commercial and office buildings: Renting makes sense if your everyday air equipment needs to be serviced or repaired. You can rent an air handler during that time to compensate. Alternatively, we can assist if you are doing renovations and need an air handler while the permanent one is being installed.
- Industrial facilities: Many types of machinery and products must be cooled at all times to prevent overheating or spoilage. Renting can be useful if you need extra temperature control during a heat wave or your permanent unit is experiencing downtime. Another occasion is if heat-sensitive products need to be stored at your warehouse only for a short time.
- Health care facilities: To minimize the spread of bacteria and viral infections, hospitals prioritize clean air quality. Air handlers play an important role, as they have filtration systems that clean the air.
- Data centers: Data center infrastructure creates immense heat and is sensitive to dust particles. Air handlers keep the servers cool and clean and maintain a stable air temperature for the area.
